We’re proud to announce that our emergency generator replacement project at UPMC Montefiore was named the Engineers'​ Society of Western PA's “Medical Project of the Year” for 2024!

The team constructed a new utility space within an existing facility to install three 2,000 Kw diesel generators with new paralleling gear and associated automatic transfer switches and ran exhausts up 11 stories on the exterior face of the building. 


Governer Josh Shapiro recently stated that the Pennsylvania State Archives Building was the “coolest building in state government." The 5 level, 145,000 square foot building is home to approximately 250,000,000 historic documents.

The Pennsylvania Aggregates & Concrete Association (PACA) announced the UPMC Mercy Pavilion as it's Project of the Year award! 

At Mascaro, safety is a top priority. This includes being prepared in case of an emergency. Mascaro offers First Aid and CPR/AED training multiple times a year that is open to any employee to attend. On the job site, all of our Front Line Supervisors are certified in First Aid and CPR/AED.

ALCOSAN North End Plant Expansion

ALCOSAN North End Plant Expansion was Mascaro's 2023 Photo Contest of the Year Winner! Congratulations to the team and Nik Donlin for submitting the photo. 

Mascaro participated in their annual Season of Giving during the month of December. Mascaro employees gave their generosity and time to the Salvation Army Angel Tree, Coats for Kids, and the North Side Food Pantry.  

On November 9, 2023, Mascaro held their 14th Guest Bartender event for Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The guest bartenders for the night were John Mascaro, Jr. and Mascaro superintendent, Nate Martin whose daughter Sofia has CF. With the help of the generous support and donations from attendees, we raised over $16,000 for CFF!

Congratulations to UPMC on receiving the Placemaking Award of Excellence for Healthy Place for UPMC Mercy Pavilion. The award, presented by the Urban Land Institute Pittsburgh, acknowledges projects that represent the ideals of placemaking, providing impact and improvement in communities and neighborhoods in the Pittsburgh region.

The importance of the health and wellness of our team is not just physical – it also means their mental health. That is why Mascaro is proud to support the Yinz Good mental health initiative for construction workers.

Founded by the MBA and CAWP, Yinz Good is free and accessible here.

Martin with Local 2274 and CheyAnne with Local 66 are hard at work on the State Route 28 Goheenville Dip project as part of PennDOT’s On-the-Job Training Program. The OJT program provides training opportunities for minority, women, and economically disadvantaged individuals to advance them toward journey-level status in highway construction trades.

Bocce tournament trophy

The 12th Annual Bocce Tournament and Festival took place on Saturday, August 12 outside of Acrisure Stadium.  Teams played in the tournament as spectators enjoyed a day of delicious Italian fare from Common Plea Catering and live music from The Aces with special guest Shari Richards, The New Pure Gold, and The Jaggerz.  Proceeds raised from the event benefit the Heinz History Center's Italian American program.

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Top Workplace

On September 10th, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette announced the 2023 Top Workplaces in the region. Mascaro was ranked #4 out of 30 other mid-sized companies. This is the sixth year in a row that Mascaro has placed in the Top 5, and the eighth year in a row that Mascaro was recognized as one of the top places to work in the region. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette holds the Top Workplaces program each year by surveying current employees of the companies and ranking their feedback.

On Saturday, August 5, Mascaro employees and their families spent the day at Kennywood for Mascaro's annual "Employee Appreciation Picnic". Attendees enjoyed a beautiful, sunny day full of rides, food, face painting, and a caricature artist.

On Saturday, August 19, John and Holly Mascaro attended the annual Twilight Picnic for the Parks which raises money for the Allegheny County Parks Foundation. Mascaro was a sponsor for the event that raised $400,000, and John is on the Board of Directors.

CEO soak in the PPG fountain

On Thursday, August 10, Michael Mascaro was one of 43 participants in the 2023 ALS CEO Soak at PPG Place. This is the 7th year for the event which originated in Pittsburgh. Funds raised directly support care services and programs for people living with ALS and their families in western PA.

Let's hit the greens!  Mascaro held it's first "Young Constructors" event at Top Golf Pittsburgh.  Attendees spent the afternoon golfing, eating, and talking with their fellow co-workers.  A fun time was had by all!

2023 Mascaro Summer Interns

Mascaro welcomed 16 summer interns who will be working in the field, estimating, accounting, information technology, human resources, and the warehouse. The interns spent a week onboarding with each department head, participated in a discussion panel with past Mascaro interns, met with their coach/mentor, trained on new technology, and ended the week with a summer kick-off party that included a dunk tank for charity.

The Heinz ketchup bottle has returned to Acrisure Stadium! Yesterday morning, the team installed the 35-foot fiberglass bottle at the entrance of Gate C. The entire process took about 3-4 hours from delivery to installation.

UPMC Mercy Pavilion Ribbon Cutting

UPMC Mercy Pavilion was officially opened in May with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The 410,000 square foot, 10-story buildingis the first of its kind in the nation offering life-changing care for people with specialized vision or rehabilitation needs.

AGC Students Tour Pitt's Recreation and Wellness Center

A rainy day did not stop the students from the  AGC chapter from visiting the University of Pittsburgh Campus Recreation and Wellness Center jobsite. The team discussed the construction plans of the building with the student before taking them on a tour of the jobsite. 

PTAC Estimating Seminar

Mascaro joined APEX Accelerators (formerly known as Procurement Technical Assistance Program) to provide a seminar to local, underserved businesses on best estimating practices to help guide them through government solicitations.

2023 Take Your Kid To Work Day at Mascaro

Almost 50 kids spent the day at Mascaro for Take Your Kid To Work Day participating in a full day of activities. The kids and their parents worked their way through fun stations on estimating, health & wellness, giving back, safety, building fundamentals, construction basics, and a visit to our warehouse. 

2023 Safety Week

Mascaro kicked off Safety Week 2023 with a week of events, information sessions, and training with each day focusing on different areas of safety.

2023 Gentlemen's Night Out Fundraiser for National Aviary

On a rainy Friday night, more than 200 guests were greeted by feathered friends at the annual Gentlemen’s Night Out at Acrisure Stadium. Guests enjoyed a night of dinner, cocktails, and premium cigars raising a record-breaking $206,000! The night benefits the National Aviary's work to save birds and protect their habitats.

JA BizTown

School is out and it’s time for summer! That also means we’ve wrapped up another great season at JA BizTown! This year, approximately 49 schools visited the Mascaro storefront where the students assumed different roles in a construction firm like CEO, project accountant, superintendent, etc. for the day. Together with Mascaro volunteers, the students ran their construction jobsite for the day including building a wooden bench.

AlyssaKunselman

Mascaro’s Alyssa Kunselman recently took part in an "Intro to Networking" panel at the NAIOP Pittsburgh – RMU Summer CRE Immersion Camp where students were encouraged to explore careers in the CRE industry.

Pitt Groundbreaking

The University of Pittsburgh broke ground on the institution’s Campus Recreation and Wellness Center. The groundbreaking was held to commemorate construction on the nine-story, 275,000 square foot space. Once completed, the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center will serve as a student activity hub and social engagement center containing dining, fitness spaces, multi-purpose rooms, a natatorium, gymnasiums, various offices, and an elevated walking/jogging track. 

CMU Beam Signing

The last two structural beams were raised into place at the Highmark Center for Health, Wellness and Athletics at Carnegie Mellon University. Nearly 600 people signed the two beams during the topping off ceremony before they were raised into place in the central part of the building which is the highest point of the facility.  The Highmark Center is scheduled to open in fall 2024.

The Electrical League of Western Pennsylvania inducted Bill Rost, Mascaro Director of Electrical Services, into the 2021 Hall of Honor.  Bill has nearly 50 years in the electrical industry and has been with Mascaro for the last 10 years.

Mascaro President and CEO, John C. Mascaro, Jr., was named to City & State’s inaugural Construction Power 75. The list identifies leading builders, contractors, public officials, construction managers, consultants, lawyers, and advocates who are building – and rebuilding – Pennsylvania.

CFWalk

On May 14, a group of Mascaro employees and their families joined together at Point State Park to walk in the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's, "Pittsburgh Great Strides" walk.  The group of twenty not only walked to show their support, but they also raised funds in donation to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation as they  work to find a cure.

Mascaro was named a 2021 CF Corporate Champion due to their support of the cause.
